Prologue to R&J

SWBAT distinguish between iambic pentameter and prose.

SW write a sonnet using iambic pentameter and proper rhyme scheme.Agenda

  • Jumpstart: Fill out Part 1 of the Pre-reading activity for Romeo and Juliet. Choose one of the seven ideas that you have experienced to write about.
  • Living Iambic Pentameter
    • Classroom Demonstration
    • Write definitions and examples on literary terms handout.
  • Sonnets: Discussion of definition and example in the prologue to Romeo and Juliet
    • Write a sonnet with a classmate inspired by a picture. Follow the rhyme scheme abab cdcd efef gg. Each line should be written in iambic pentameter.

Homework: Poem Posters due Friday, 2/1
