2nd hour

SWBAT explain the author’s use of monologue and soliloquy by reading and discussing plot events.

Vocabulary: wherefore, enmity, ghostly father, brine, chidst, monologue, soliloquy

Essential Questions: What is the difference between a monologue and soliloquy? How do events continue to develop in the rising action?

  • Jumpstart: What’s the worst pick-up line you’ve heard or used? Which of Romeo OR Juliet’s lines is the best pick-up line? What do you think of Romeo and Juliet’s first conversation?

  • Finish reading Scene 2. Discuss the differences between a monologue and a soliloquy.  Act 2 Monologue and Soliloquy

  • Read and discuss Scene 3

  • Four Corners Vocabulary: Create a poster showing the meaning of one of our new vocabulary words (man, quit thy pains, feign, coil, gossamer, conceit). Use the book to find the definitions and the sentence/lines.

  • Work on RandJ Act 2 Study Guide

4th hour

SWBAT analyze plot events and character traits by writing summary and drawing illustrations.

Vocabulary: wherefore, enmity, ghostly father, brine, chidst

Essential Questions: How do events continue to develop in the rising action? What do we learn about Friar Lawrence?

  • Jumpstart: What’s the worst pick-up line you’ve heard or used? Which of Romeo OR Juliet’s lines is the best pick-up line? What do you think of Romeo and Juliet’s first conversation?

  • Finish reading Scene 2:

    • Storyboard: Read the famous balcony scene. What does Romeo say about Juliet? What does Juliet say about Romeo?

    • Storyboard: What lines at the end of Scene 2 foreshadown Romeo and Juliet’s deaths?

  • Act 2 Scene 3

    • Storyboard: What does Friar Lawrence agree to do? Why does he make that decision?
